Conservation

Set in the heart of Nyandarua’s breathtaking highlands, the Lake Ol’Bolossat Marathon is where athletic spirit will meet nature’s splendor. From the Equator to the shores of Kenya’s only highland lake, runners race through rolling hills, misty forests, and open skies to celebrate endurance, community, and conservation. This is not just a marathon; it’s a journey through one of Kenya’s most stunning landscapes.

Who we are?

History and Values

The Lake Ol’Bolossat Marathon was founded in 2023 as a visionary effort to unite fitness, environmental conservation, and community development in Nyandarua County. Inspired by the urgency to protect Kenya’s only highland lake from degradation, the marathon quickly became a beacon for athletes, conservationists, and locals alike. With support from the County Government and partners like Tower Sacco, Citizen TV, and Spire Kenya, the event continues to grow, turning every step taken on the scenic course into a stride for ecological protection and social change.

Our Mission

To inspire action through sport by uniting communities, protecting Lake Ol’Bolossat’s fragile ecosystem, and empowering the people of Nyandarua through inclusive, purpose-driven events that leave a lasting social and environmental impact.

Our Approach

At the Lake Ol’Bolossat Marathon, we believe a meaningful event goes beyond the race. Our approach combines community-driven planning, eco-conscious practices, and long-term impact. We work closely with local leaders, environmental experts, and volunteers to design a marathon that not only celebrates athleticism, but also restores ecosystems and empowers the people of Nyandarua. From route mapping that respects natural habitats, to inclusive race categories and tree planting initiatives, every detail is intentional. We run with purpose, partner with heart, and leave footprints that build a better tomorrow.

In the heart of Ol Bolossat, nature speaks in whispers, of wetlands that nurture, skies that shelter, and wildlife that reminds us: conservation is our shared responsibility.

Start smart, finish strong, it’s a marathon, not a 100m dash (and yes, walking at water points is legal!)

Water is your best friend. Energy drinks are your second. A banana at kilometer 15? Pure magic.

Run with purpose, breathe with rhythm, and let your thoughts chase the birds, not your competitors.

Feet on the ground. Eyes on the future. Heart for Ol’Bolossat.

Governor. Visionary. Marathon Starter. Occasional Tree Planter. Dr. Moses Kiarie Badilisha isn’t just the Governor of Nyandarua County, he’s the chief encourager, head cheerleader, and unofficial pace-setter of the Lake Ol’Bolossat Marathon (don’t ask about his running time… yet). With a heart for people and a serious soft spot for the environment, he’s been leading the charge to save Lake Ol’Bolossat — one wetland, one tree, and one sweaty runner at a time. From flagging off races with presidential flair to planting trees like it’s cardio, Dr. Badilisha reminds us all that leadership isn’t just about boardrooms, sometimes it’s about running shoes and muddy boots. Fun Fact: He’s been known to deliver passionate speeches without losing his breath, now that’s marathon training in disguise

From Struggles to Strides

When he’s not leading business strategy across regions, Samuel Kirubi is out there championing clean air, strong strides, and stronger network signals, even near hippo territory! As Safaricom’s Regional Business Lead, Samuel plays a key role in powering the Ol’Bolossat Marathon, keeping runners connected, inspired, and maybe even streaming motivational playlists mid-sprint. He brings not just corporate muscle, but serious passion for community and conservation. Whether he’s coordinating logistics or cheering from the sidelines, Samuel reminds us: great coverage doesn’t stop at the finish line, and neither does real leadership.
